Rosebrock advises: new SOLAS Container Weight Verification Requirements become effective 1 July 2016

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued new regulations governing the weighing of containers. As of 1 July 2016, shipping companies will only release those containers for loading on board, for which the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) has previously been determined.  The VGM, which comprises load weight, packing material and tare weight, must be submitted to the shipping company approx. 24 hours prior to the receiving vessel’s arrival. As this applies to all export containers shipped per oceangoing vessel, Rosebrock has acquired the requisite expertise and established electronic interfaces well in advance. Loaders and shippers may also submit the precise weight to Rosebrock manually by way of VGM declaration forms. Our International Logistics Department specialists will gladly advise you.
